How We Practice

Our Mission in Sleep Medicine

We provide an effective, efficient way to diagnose and manage any sort of sleep problem. Sleep disorders are serious stuff, but we do all that we can to make your evaluation as stress-free and non-intimidating as possible.

Insurance

We contract with virtually all major health insurance companies and policies.

Practice Parameters

We follow practice parameters outlined by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

What to Expect When You Are Evaluated

Our 6-step clinical process is simple but designed to provide the very best possible care:

  1. Initial contact, scheduling
    1. If your doctor requests that we evaluate you, a referral will be made to us on your behalf from your doctor’s office; we will then contact you to schedule an initial clinic visit with our sleep doctors
    2. If your insurance does not require a referral from your doctor, you may call directly to schedule a clinic visit; however, we ask that you inform your doctor that you are getting a sleep medicine evaluation
    3. Please, at any time, contact us with any questions
  2. Preparation for initial clinic visit
    1. Our staff will mail or fax you some basic paperwork
    2. We ask that you complete our clinic questionnaire, which is crucial for you to have filled out by the time you arrive for your initial visit; click here to download this questionnaire
  3. Initial clinic visit
    1. An extensive patient interview will take place with one of our sleep doctors to understand the complexities of your sleep problems
    2. A thorough physical examination will take place
    3. A complete report of this visit will be sent immediately to your doctor(s)
    4. We ask that a bed partner or family member familiar with your sleep accompany you to this clinic visit
  4. Diagnostic testing
    1. If your sleep doctor feels it necessary, diagnostic sleep study testing may be recommended to diagnose your sleep problems
    2. Decisions regarding where and when to perform your testing will occur according to geographic convenience for you, and the wait times for scheduling for sleep studies. We want your testing to occur to minimize BOTH drive times and scheduling hassles
    3. Our sleep doctors will interpret your sleep study thoroughly and as soon as possible, reviewing both technologist reports and the computer raw data
    4. A formal physician interpretation report of your testing will be issued immediately to your doctor(s), and a letter summarizing your results will be sent to you
  5. Management
    1. Preparations will then be made for follow-up and therapy, the specifics of which depend in part on your testing results
    2. If positive airway pressure is required for treatment based on your testing, you have a choice of durable medical equipment companies that can supply you with this service.  At your request we can help you establish a relationship with equipment providers that would best suit your individual needs
  6. Follow-up
    1. The timing of your follow-up will depend in part on the nature of your sleep problems
    2. For those undergoing sleep studies, your sleep physician will see you in follow-up after completion of testing
    3. If positive airway pressure (CPAP) is recommended and started, our doctors generally will see you several weeks after CPAP has been started, to give some time to acclimate to its use
    4. We will work with you regularly in our clinic until your sleep problems are solved and managed long-term
    5. Even if optimally treated, we will continue to be a resource for you any time
